Solo exhibition RECTO UNI VERSO at CONCEPT_11

sculpture

I would like to invite you to the solo sculpture exhibition RECTO UNI VERSO at CONCEPT_11, located at Szeroki Dunaj 11 in Warsaw. The exhibition runs until July 12 and can be viewed by appointment. The exhibition is held under the media patronage of AD Polska.

The human brain cannot tolerate emptiness—it immediately seeks to name and domesticate what is unknown. The exhibition RECTO UNI VERSO is a deliberate attempt to delay this process in favour of a pure, unforced sensory experience. The starting point for the artist, Zuzanna Grochowska, is the classical division between recto and verso. Regardless of whether the work is a heavy metal cast or a form made of soft, malleable material, every object always has two sides.

Zuzanna Grochowska creates abstract sculptures—forms that the human brain cannot immediately recognise or assign to familiar objects. As humans, we have a natural tendency to instantly categorise what we see. The artist seeks to prolong this process, compelling the viewer to look more attentively. Here, it is not the sculpture that remains constant, but change itself. The form is constructed in the viewer’s eye through a dialogue with its surroundings, shifting light, and the haptic structure of the surface. The final image that emerges in our minds is filtered through who we are: what we notice, what we consider important, and even the physical sharpness of our vision.
